After the reality TV star, which entertained camp inmates and viewers with their comments during the two weeks, hadn’t gotten pig’s lungs down before, it should now work with other disgusting bites – or as Burdecki said: „through the tongue the lung“. She munched on a living scorpion, chewed through a piece of camel’s penis, and quickly poured down a drink made from mealworms, cockroaches, crickets and cow urine. Result: three stars.

Twelve candidates had moved into the camp two weeks ago, the eviction phase by audience voting began at halftime: The first candidate had to be the former „Bachelorette“ candidate

Shortly before the start of the every year

RTL show „I’m a star – get me out of here“ (IBES)

On January 10th, the jungle camp got caught in the media crossfire because of the devastating bush fires in Australia.

The flames rage hundreds of kilometers away. They destroy nature, kill thousands of animals and also cost people their existence, some even their lives. Twelve jungle camp participants sit protected in the green jungle, wondering in front of the cameras whether they should eat the kangaroo testicles or not.

Shortly before the start of the annual RTL show „I am a star – get me out of here“ (IBES) on January 10, the jungle camp gets caught in the media crossfire because of the devastating bush fires in Australia.https://123helpme.me/ The SPD Bundestag politician Karl Lauterbach appealed to RTL via the „Bild“ newspaper to call off the camp this year and said: „The whole thing is reminiscent of the dance on the volcano.“

„No such fun show fits into the absolute catastrophe“

Like Lauterbach, some other politicians see it – and also former and even current jungle campers. The actress Ingrid van Bergen (88), jungle queen of the year 2009, told the „Bild“: „No such fun show fits into the absolute catastrophe.“

Actor Raul Richter (formerly „Good Times, Bad Times“) contacted us shortly before moving to the camp from Brisbane. „It tears my heart apart,“ he said on Instagram, where he also wrote that it was „actually paradoxical that we are flying to an entertainment show in a country where people are currently fighting for their lives and many, many animals are already fighting have lost“.

„Dr. Bob“ does not put out the fires

But many Australians who were themselves affected by the fires – especially „Dr. Bob“ – earned their money with the show. And they would have told him: „No matter whether the jungle camp takes place or not – it does not put out the fires.“ That is why the camp could perhaps even do good and draw attention to the disaster on site, says Richter. He plans to talk about climate change at the camp.

„The business of entertainment in times of crisis is a difficult one,“ says Thorsten Hennig-Thurau, Professor of Marketing and Media at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. „Of course we all have a need for distraction and entertainment. And this is especially true in times of crisis. Empirical research shows (…) that people go to the cinema more often in economic crises.“

Cancel the jungle camp? No solution.

In his opinion, canceling the camp is not a solution. „RTL should rather show that it accepts its social responsibility. You shouldn’t appear as a clown in times of crisis or even as a crisis profiteer. Instead, you have to find ways to combine the program with a format that shows responsibility.“ He cites as examples „donations, discussions in and outside the camp (…). The strategy department has to find clever formats.“

The Hamburg media scientist Joan Kristin Bleicher also recommends: „One should address the difficult circumstances, especially since the fires represent a national catastrophe for Australia.“

No campfire in the camp

RTL emphasizes that the fires, which have already destroyed an area the size of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg together, are several hundred kilometers from the camp. Nevertheless, there are strict safety precautions this year: Smokers are only allowed to reach for a cigarette around the hob and have to dispose of the stubs in a lockable box. There is a special lighter – and no campfire. For the first time in the history of the show, sizzling takes place on a camping stove rather than over an open fire.

Do you think it’s good that the 2020 jungle camp is taking place?

  • Yes, the show must go on
  • No, I find it irresponsible!
  • I don’t care

The campfire in the last campfire format on German television went out before the show started. A sign beyond this year? From Hennig-Thurau’s point of view, even the jungle camp, which has been a major quota guarantee for years, will have a hard time in the future – even without the current fire debate.

Because with the growth in importance of Netflix and Co, the audience potential continues to melt, he says. „Young people in particular are the core target group for the jungle camp and by far the most dynamic when it comes to adopting new trends. The young are those for whom linear television plays a dramatically smaller role today.“ Overall, says Hennig-Thurau, „it is becoming more and more difficult for RTL to generate such events“.

Jungle camp breaks with tradition of disgust

The second reason, according to the researcher from Münster: satiety. „There is always a tendency towards saturation with regard to entertainment formats. At some point people get tired when the same thing is presented to them again. It always takes something fresh, deviating from the usual, in order not to let a recipe get boring.“

And precisely because a growing number of people no longer watch linear television, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find staff who say something to many people. The fact that with the German ex-Federal Transport Minister Günther Krause a former politician is there for the first time and with the Austrian Sonja Kirchberger („Die Venusfalle“) an actress who says something rather older, he attributes to the fact that RTL is now also performing targets other, older target groups in order to make the format sustainable. But: „I think we have to slowly say Byebye,“ says Hennig-Thurau. „There is a risk that this media campfire concept will cool down permanently. It shines and warms significantly less.“

The participants of the eleventh „Dancing Stars“ season have been determined: Musical star Ana Milva Gomes, FM4 presenter Riem Higazi and actor Martin Leutgeb complete the line-up that will venture into the ORF „Ballroom“, according to a broadcast. The jury is also new: in addition to Nicole Burns-Hansen and Balazs Ekker, ballerina Karina Sarkissova and dance sports trainer Dirk Heidemann will take their seats.

In total there are again ten celebrities who will shake their legs for the successful ORF show. Ex-soccer player Walter Schachner, singer Norbert Schneider, weather presenter Eser Ari-Akbaba, cabaret artist Monica Weinzettl, actor Otto Retzer, presenter Martin Ferdiny and former ski racer Nicole Hosp had already been selected as candidates.

Ana Milva Gomes excelled in “Mamma mia!” And “Mozart!” In the Raimund Theater: “I was very surprised when I was asked. I sang in the orchestra once last year and for the first time I was able to see very closely how it works and what the atmosphere is like at ‚Dancing Stars‘. At that time I thought that it would be cool if I took part at some point. ”And further:“ I have a dance education – but these standard and Latin dances are completely different in terms of body language and posture. I still have a lot to learn. „

Riem Higazi moderates the programs “Update” and “Reality Check” on FM4: “That is a great challenge for me. I like to tell stories on the radio, but I’m very shy and don’t like to be photographed. But it is important for me to face my fears. And so I thought to myself ‚Yeah man, I’m gonna do it, I’m gonna Cha-Cha-Cha for the Nation‘ „. And about dancing: “There were times when I danced for maybe ten hours in a disco, but it was the 90s. And now I dance at my cousins‘ weddings in Cairo, but maybe five minutes and then I have to sit down again. „

“CopStories” actor Martin Leutgeb was recently seen in “Landkrimi Tirol”: “I myself followed the ‚Dancing Stars‘ season a little more last year because I liked Georgij very much. Despite his weight, he was so light-footed. ”And about his dance experience:“ I didn’t go to a dance school, I lived in the country, and the only ball where you weren’t afraid to dance was the carnival ball. I learned a few basic steps there. I like to dance and some say I can lead too. I always have the same steps, and since I always change women, they are thrilled. I have the ambition to do it, but I don’t know whether I have the talent. „

On Monday they were allowed to

sniff this year’s „Dancing Stars“ celebrities and their professional partners for the first time

and off you go with the hard everyday rehearsal. Niki Hosp, Otto Retzer, Monica Weinzettl and Martin Ferdiny have already completed their first dance lessons. Walter Schachner, Eser Ari-Akbaba and Riem Higazi followed the next day. In the meantime, Volker Piesczek and Norbert Schneider have also started rehearsing.

Until the first live show on March 31st, the „Dancing Stars“ couples have to complete at least 50 hours of training. So it’s no wonder that people are already busy dancing in the studios in the ORF center.
